With higher temperatures, more intense storms and nearby fault lines that will eventually rupture and cause major earthquakes, Wānaka residents need to be prepared for a range of different emergencies and local authorities need to respond quickly and cohesively when they occur. To ensure that happens, the Wānaka Community Response Group (WCRG) was established last year by a group of concerned locals and they’re on the hunt for more members.  The group comprises some 32 members (and growing), with eight of them forming the management committee. Their members represent a wide range of personal and professional skills and experience, and some have civil emergency training and experience. Anyone who is interested in getting involved and strengthening the community’s resilience can contact wanakacrg@gmail.com
