Deputy Chair Kathy Dedo popped in this week to run through what’s coming up for our community, from key meeting dates to summer rules and New Year plans on the lakefront.

Early Funding Discussions

On 10 December, the Community Board will hold a workshop at the Lake Wānaka Centre focused on early input into the 2026/27 Annual Plan budget. This is the earliest the board has ever been involved in shaping funding decisions, giving Wānaka and the Upper Clutha a stronger voice before the draft even lands.

The first full official meeting of the new board will follow on 16 December at the Luggate Memorial Hall.

Summer 101 is Live

As we hit peak holiday season, Summer 101 is now up and running one central place to check seasonal rules and reminders. It covers alcohol zones, camping rules, fire restrictions, parking, waste, and even water use.

New Year on the Lakefront

This year’s New Year’s Eve plans are set to keep both locals and visitors happy.
• Family-friendly activities at Dinosaur Park in the afternoon
• Music and lakefront stages into the evening
• Fireworks at midnight

Tune In from Home

All Council and Community Board meetings are streamed online, making it easier to follow decisions that affect our area. There’s also an interactive calendar on QLDC’s website to keep track of workshops, agendas, and viewing links.

Transparent decision-making, clear summer rules, and a classic lakefront New Year wrap up the next few weeks. Keep an eye on the board calendar and Summer 101 page if you want to stay ahead of the busy season.
