As the year draws to a close, there’s plenty happening in the Upper Clutha community to celebrate and look forward to. From the successful launch of Stage 5 of the Lakefront Pathway to a jam-packed holiday lineup, there’s something for everyone this summer. Here’s a look at some of the key updates from the Upper Clutha Community Board, chaired by Simon Telfer.
Mount Iron Reserve Management Plan (RMP) Update
A huge thank you to the community for submitting over 400 responses regarding the Mount Iron RMP. This incredible feedback will help shape the future of this beloved natural reserve. With a focus on sustainability and access, the plan will reflect the needs and wishes of the community. We look forward to the next steps in finalizing the plan and ensuring Mount Iron remains a place everyone can enjoy for years to come.
Stage 5 of the Lakefront Pathway Now Open!
It’s official – Stage 5 of the Lakefront Pathway is now open for both walkers and bikers! This exciting development marks another step towards making Wānaka more accessible, allowing people to enjoy the stunning lakeside views while staying active. Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and plans for further enhancements to the pathway are already in the works. This is just the beginning of creating an even more pedestrian-friendly Wānaka!
Xmas Special: Bands & Fireworks for New Year’s Eve
The festive season is upon us, and we’ve got a treat for you! The New Year’s Eve celebrations will feature fantastic live bands and a spectacular fireworks display. It's the perfect way to ring in 2025 with family and friends. Be sure to join us for a night of music, fun, and community spirit – a tradition that’s quickly becoming a highlight of the summer.
Overflow Parking at the Showgrounds
We know parking can be a challenge during peak times, so we’re pleased to announce that overflow parking will be available at the Showgrounds. This solution is aimed at easing congestion and ensuring that everyone has easy access to local events. With clear signage and shuttle options, getting around will be more convenient than ever.
Community Link’s 'Everyone CAN' Foodbank Christmas Appeal
The holiday season is also a time to give back. Community Link’s ‘Everyone CAN’ Foodbank Christmas Appeal is in full swing. The appeal encourages donations of non-perishable food items to support families in need this Christmas. This initiative brings our community together to ensure everyone has access to the essentials during the festive period. Check out how you can contribute online or at local collection points.
Summer Services & Safety Information
The QLDC’s ‘Summer 101’ webpage is your go-to resource for all things summer-related in the region. Whether you're looking for local services, tips on staying safe, or just want to know the best spots to visit, everything you need is in one place. Remember to stay safe, respectful, and enjoy all that the region has to offer while keeping our community safe and welcoming for all.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we look ahead to 2025, the Upper Clutha Community Board is committed to improving and enhancing our community. We encourage everyone to get involved, share their thoughts, and stay informed. Together, we can continue building a thriving and vibrant community.
