We caught up with Sergeant Graham Hamblett from Wānaka Police to talk about a recent run of incidents in Lake Hāwea, and what locals need to know.

What’s happened?
Police are investigating a couple of vehicles that were tampered with in the area, along with one car that was stolen. The good news is that the stolen vehicle has since been recovered.

Sergeant Hamblett is reminding anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, to get in touch with Police. You can make a report by calling 105.

Busy roads ahead
With the summer concert coming up at Three Parks next week, it’s shaping up to be a hectic time on local roads. Sergeant Hamblett is urging drivers to be patient, allow extra travel time, and keep safety front of mind.

Expect heavier traffic than usual, especially around peak times and near event areas. Police will be out and about to help keep things running smoothly, but everyone doing their part makes a big difference.

Final word
Lock your cars, don’t leave valuables in plain sight, and trust your instincts. If something doesn’t look right, report it.
