Community Link has officially launched its 2025 Christmas Appeal, calling on locals to come together and support those doing it tough this festive season.

This year has been challenging for many across the Upper Clutha — families are financially stretched, older residents are feeling isolated, and for too many, Christmas is shaping up to be a time of stress rather than celebration.

“Christmas should be a time of joy and hope, not stress,” says Ian Maxwell, Community Link Trust Chair. “Your support ensures every child, parent, and whānau can celebrate the season with hope.”

Donations of food or money will go directly to local families and seniors in need, providing festive meals, essentials, and financial assistance.

The appeal is built around five community values:

  • Empathy & Fairness: Everyone deserves to celebrate.

  • Local Immediacy: Your support helps neighbours today.

  • Collective Impact: Together, no family is left behind.

  • Practical Giving: Food and financial support go the furthest.

  • Celebration & Hope: Christmas is about connection and pride.

Together, we can make sure no one in our community is left behind this Christmas.
