⛷️ Women's Avalanche Skills Course Level 1

Evening Classroom Session & On-Mountain Training

Thinking about getting into the backcountry this winter?

Aspiring Guides' Women's Avalanche Skills Course Level 1 is designed to give women the confidence and skills needed to travel safely in avalanche terrain.

Part of the inaugural Women's Winter Series, this NZ Mountain Safety Council accredited course covers avalanche awareness, trip planning, route selection, decision-making, and companion rescue skills including beacon, probe, and shovel use.

The course includes an evening classroom session followed by a full day on the mountain at either Treble Cone or Cardrona, providing valuable hands-on experience in real alpine conditions.

Places are limited to just six participants, so early booking is recommended.

🐑 WoolOn Pink Plaster Challenge

Got a creative kid who loves making things? The WoolOn Pink Plaster Challenge is back for 2026 and it's a fun introduction to the world of wearable art and fashion design.

Children can work on their own, team up with friends, or create a project as a group, designing an outfit using special pink wool plasters supplied by New Zealand merino wool medical dressing company WoolAid.

There are prizes up for grabs, including cash and creative awards, and it's open to young designers keen to let their imagination run wild.

Entry forms and all the details can be found on the WoolOn website. Entries close on July 31, with completed garments due by August 14.

🎿 Merino Muster 2026

Snow Farm, Cardrona Valley

Experience one of New Zealand's most iconic cross-country skiing events as the Merino Muster returns to the stunning Pisa Range this winter.

Inspired by the high-country merino sheep muster, the event offers something for every ability, from seasoned competitors to first-time skiers.

Choose from the challenging 42km Merino Muster, the 21km Snow Rake, or the family-friendly 5km Straggle Muster, which is perfect for beginners and young skiers looking to experience the event atmosphere.

Teams are also encouraged, making it a great day out for families, schools, clubs, and groups of friends.

Set against spectacular alpine scenery, every participant who crosses the finish line receives a medal, making this a true bucket-list event for snow lovers.
