Stormwater Showcase: Community in Our Catchment

Ever wondered where your stormwater ends up? From your roof to the road, from the drain to the stream, every drop has a journey.

WAI Wānaka is hosting its very first Stormwater Showcase, a hands-on community event all about looking after the water flowing through our catchment. You’ll pick up simple, practical ways to make a difference at home and in your street, and see how small actions can help protect our local waterways.

You’ll also meet the Adopt a Drain crew from WAI Wānaka, plus teams from QLDC, ORC and Mitre 10.

Bremner Bay Clean-Up – Get Involved

Join WAI Wānaka for a rewarding clean-up at Bremner Bay, proudly supported by Wanatravel.

Help remove rubbish from the beach and nearby tracks, doing your bit to protect Lake Wānaka. It’s also a chance to get involved in citizen science, with all rubbish sorted and recorded in the national Litter Intelligence database run by Sustainable Coastlines.

World Water Day at Kai Whakapai

Join WAI Wānaka at Kai Whakapai this Friday as they warm up for World Water Day.

The WAI crew will be there from 4pm to 7pm for chats, good vibes and a chance to celebrate the lakes and rivers we all love. Big thanks to Kai for hosting and backing the cause. One dollar from every beer sold on the day will go straight to WAI Wānaka.

World Water Day is a time to reflect on just how important freshwater is to our community. If you value our waterways, this is a simple way to show it.

Boundaries Without Guilt Workshop

Struggle to say no without feeling bad about it? This practical workshop is all about setting clear, healthy boundaries without harshness, over-explaining, or guilt.

Over three hours, you’ll learn how to protect your energy while keeping relationships intact. The session explores why saying no can feel uncomfortable, and how to respond without getting defensive or shutting down.

Through real-life scenarios and practical exercises, you’ll practise expressing your limits clearly while staying connected to yourself and others. Perfect for anyone who often says yes when they really mean no.

Hike for a Cure Returns to Lake Hāwea Station

Hike for a Cure is back on Saturday 28 March 2026 at Lake Hāwea Station, bigger and bolder than ever.

This year features two iconic summits, Breast Peak and the newly added Breast Hill. With exclusive access to the station’s stunning high country trails, hikers can choose from a range of routes, including a 26km double summit with around 1,500 metres of elevation gain.

Take it at your own pace, soak up sweeping views of Lake Hāwea, Mount Aspiring Tititea and the Southern Alps, and raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Cure.

Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow 2026

Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow returns this Easter for another action-packed weekend at Wanaka Airport.

New Zealand’s premier airshow has been lighting up the skies every second year since 1988 and attracts more than 60,000 people from around the world. Expect close to 100 aircraft, from 1930s warbirds to modern fighter jets, all set against the stunning Southern Alps.

Whether you’re there for the roar of a Spitfire’s Merlin engine, the power of modern jets tearing up the runway, or a family day packed with education and entertainment, there’s something for everyone. You don’t have to be an aviation buff to have a great time.

And it’s not just in the air. On the ground you can explore interactive exhibits, meet Air Force recruiters, book a bucket list flight, and check out the latest innovations in the Future of Aviation zone.

The Big Bike Film Night 2026

The Big Bike Film Night is back in 2026, bringing the best short cycling films from around the world to Wānaka.

This screening sensation serves up two and a half hours of action, drama, humour and inspiration. It’s a full celebration of life on two wheels and perfect for anyone who loves riding, from weekend cruisers to hardcore trail addicts.

🎬 Two screenings:
4:00pm to 6:30pm
7:30pm to 10:00pm

The 2026 line-up includes:

• A stunning mountain bike journey through Norway under the midnight sun
• Two adventurous women cycling to every ski field in New Zealand
• An inspiring ride through the wettest, toughest conditions imaginable
• A playful look at riders pushing creativity and fun to new heights
• A powerful story of resilience after life-changing injury and the impact of adaptive design
• A moving father and son milestone ride
• An adventure activist chasing a 24-hour downhill world record to help reforest the foothills around Queenstown

Dawn Plunge for World Water Day

Start your Friday with a splash for a great cause.

Join WAI Wānaka for a Dawn Plunge at 7am on Friday 20 March at the Wānaka Lakefront. Head to Roy’s Bay and look out for the WAI Wānaka flags.

Take the plunge into the crisp waters of Lake Wānaka, then warm up with a cuppa and a chat with the community. It’s all about celebrating World Water Day and showing some love for our local waterways.

Bring your togs, a towel, and a brave face for the early morning dip.
